Yorkie Breeders You Should Avoid

By: Susan Bailey

There is a lot involved when it comes to finding just the right Yorkie breeder and it is just as important to know how to find bad breeders as it is to find good ones. You need to know what kind of Yorkie breeders to avoid and the process you should go through to determine that. What follows are some ways you can use to determine if you really want to do business with some of the Yorkie breeders you will be talking to.

A national breeder registry is an organization that creates standards for all breeders to follow to try and insure that their dogs are happy and healthy pets. If a Yorkie breeder you are talking to is not listed with a breeder then you may want to have second thoughts about that breeder or at least ask what standards they use for their business, as information like that can be extremely important to you and your dog.

The value of your vet's input into choosing a Yorkie breeder cannot be underestimated, as your vet can be a valuable source of some very helpful and important information. If you do not currently have a vet you are doing business with then the perfect time to establish a relationship with a vet is during the process of trying to find a breeder. Your vet is always concerned about the health of your pet and they will let you know if any of the breeders you are considering should be avoided or not.

Many people forget to cover all of their bases in a search for a good Yorkie breeder and one of those bases is local law enforcement. Contact your local law enforcement and ask them about the breeders you are considering. If any of those prospective breeders are known to law enforcement in a negative way then you may want to move on to other breeders.

In the end you are the one that will have to deal with the breeder you choose so make sure you spend a great deal of time talking to all of the Yorkie breeders you are considering. See if you feel comfortable enough talking to the breeder to maintain the long term relationship with them that will be essential to your dog's health.

If you are not comfortable with a particular breeder, or they do not seem to know their business, then avoid that breeder completely.

Finding a good breeder is extremely important so take your time, do your homework and ask a lot of questions. If you make the wrong choice then you could regret it for years so make sure you use all of the resources available to you when you are considering a Yorkie breeder.

This is a very important decision for you and your dog so make sure you take the time and do the work necessary to make the right decision the first time.
