Takin' on the iPhone - Samsung and Sony Ericsson super-phones incoming!

With the launch of the 3G iPhone due to happen soon, the major manufacturers are ramping up their development on new super-powered mobile phones designed to take it on and kick its... well you get the idea. Today, I focus on two of the largest, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
There are some things set the iPhone apart from its competitors, in the game of mobile phones. First is the full touchscreen interface, something that HAS been seen on other phones, but never with such a big screen. But more important than the screen itself is what's inside, and it's this area where fans of the iPhone say it has a distinct advantage over its rivals. To put it simply, the iPhone has the slickest user interface around, one that is sublime to use, on top of being amazingly powerful. It's an amazing combination, and one that really makes it stand out.
Well, it did until recently, because the simple fact is, the leading manufacturers of mobile phones (try saying that if you're not 100% sober) are catching up, and very soon, we'll be seeing their OWN touchscreen phones, designed to take on the iPhone. In fact, it's already started, with the announcement of the awesome Samsung i900.

Let's deal with the exterior of the Samsung i900, before we get into the details of what's inside. It's pretty obvious that it's strongly influenced by the iPhone, but that's no bad thing. You get a groovy, huge touchscreen, and the body is made predominantly of metal, something that really gives it a sexy look, and makes it look absolutely mouth-watering. The screen is big and vibrant, and to be frank, it's one of the sexiest mobile phones I've ever seen. Inside the Samsung i900, it gets even mroe high-end, as it's based on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, making it really powerful, and a custom interface, making it sexy! You also have a 5 megapixel camera, lord knows how many multimedia options, and a huge 8Gb of memory to store everything on!
In essence, then, it's taking on the iPhone in a big way. But how about that other pillar of the mobile community, Sony Ericsson?

Samsung have got the i900 as their ace in the hole, but Sony Ericsson have potentially got something even better in the planning stages. However, the thing is... no-one knows what it will be! I mean, they haven't even given it a codename yet, but we can piece together some clues and do some logical thinking to see just how good this thing will be. The first clue is that Sony Ericsson showed a new version of the UIQ operating system a while back, that was quite clearly influenced by the iPhone. Second clue: a Sony Ericsson promo video recently showed TWO mystery mobile phones, with no codename and no branding... but they DID say to keep an eye on them, as they will be coming out later this year. Add that to the fact that we have an entirely new line of phones from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia line, designed to bring the customer unique experiences, and I reckon it's abundantly clear that something absolutely mind-blowing is going to be coming from Sony Ericsson, soon!
