Kidney and Lower Back Pain

The causes of back pain come in many different forms. You can get back pain from something as simple stretching incorrectly or walking in high heels. One other way people suffer from back pain is because they have a kidney infection. The pain can radiate into the back from this kidney infection.

Symptoms and Other Signs

You absolutely must see your doctor is you have mid or low back pain that has been persistent. You may have some form of trauma in your back that needs attention immediately such as a possible kidney infection.

If your pain is happening with the following, you can be sure that you are suffering from a kidney infection:

Burning during urination - Fever - Nausea - Blood in urine (may not see)

So where are your kidney's located? They are on both sides of your spine, just above your hips. What your doctor will do is press on these area's to check for tenderness and sensitivity. The pain is going to be localized to this area. It can move up to the waist area if you do have a kidney infection.

A check of the white blood cells in your body, doctors will ask for a urine sample. By testing the white blood cells in your body the doctor can tell if your body is fighting an infection.

Many times you will know that you don't have a kidney infection because you will know what caused the back pain. You will have had an accident that caused the back pain. If you don't remember any traumatic event that could have caused your back pain then you may have a kidney infection.

Treatment for a Kidney Infection

When bacteria enters into the bladder and travels to the kidneys will cause a kidney infection. You will suffer from a bunch of symptoms, one of which will be lower back pain. Two forms of kidney infections are:

Acute (strong but short -term) - Chronic (slow buildup but can be long in duration)

Taking antibiotics is the usual form of treatment for a kidney infection. If you wait and don't receive treatment for a kidney infection you can end up damaging your kidneys. So make sure if you think you may have a kidney infection, see your doctor right away.

If you have a severe case, you may get a shot of antibiotics from your doctor. You may get pain medication and anti-nausea medicine to be prescribed to deal with some of the other symptoms. The tenderness in the lower back will go away when the infection goes away.

Treatment for lower back pain

Now if you have a pain from a trauma, this pain is not going to go away as fast as the pain from the infection. Pain brought on by back trauma can be treated by:

Heating pads - Physical therapy - Topical - Oral pain medication

These treatments are used, along with rest, when back pain is brought on by these types of events:

Bending Wrong - Back Spasms - Herniated Disc - Over Doing Exercise - Stretching - Strains

There is a huge difference between low back pain from an infection opposed to low back pain caused by trauma.
