By: John Stockton

Naturally anger is part of a defense mechanism that enables you steer clear of danger. When anger exceeds its natural design of protection, it becomes a problem. Anger that isn’t balanced can spell severe disaster and needs to get help before it goes out of control completely.

Most people who battle with problems of anger do so because they take things too seriously. Adopting a humorous perspective to life can help you to ignore certain things that would have gotten you angry.

Having a close friend that you can talk to in times of anger can help you control it. You can call up a friend or mail them when you are being threatened with the tide of anger. You can get a friend to help walk you through anger management techniques.

When it comes to anger, note that you will not make much headway in controlling it if you are unable to take responsibility for your actions. That’s why they are unable to effectively manage and control their anger.

To help you express yourself properly whenever you are angry, use the pronoun ‘I’. With the use of statements such as ‘I’ am angry, you will be accepting the fact that you also had a role to play in the situation. Remember that no matter what someone else does to you, YOU decided to be angry. You have a choice to decide NOT to be angry instead.

You don’t have to be right all the time. Instead of provoking and being provoked because of the need to win an argument, you can simply concede for the sake of peace. It’s true that lots of outbursts of anger starts with arguments that end up badly. You don’t have to proof a point or show that your argument is superior all the time. Your opponents won’t accept it and this will only make you angry more often.

Anger management programs have not been put in place to help you suppress your anger emotions. Suppressing your anger is in itself an anger problem that needs to be dealt with. Anger management programs are there to educate you on the best way to express your anger so it doesn’t lead to destructive issues.

Anger can be destructive in its uncontrolled form anywhere. Your anger may explode at home, work or in a public place. Anger can divest you of logic, reason and dignity.
