Most internet marketers have their own website through which they promote their wares in the online marketplace. But the main criterion which determines how successful they are in this endeavour is traffic. But the fact remains that however fabulous your products are and however desirable the price is, you won’t sell many units if you don’t get the traffic you need. One of the big secrets to getting a continuous stream of traffic is to make sure you have a strong site. By this I mean that you work on creating a network on incoming and outgoing links to and from your site. This creates a web of links that the search engine spiders’ love and they will give your site an even higher page ranking the more of them they find. Links not only mean your site will be found and updated more often by the search engines, they also ensure you will receive visitors from plenty of different sources. Of course some links will be more productive than others; one link may bring in a dozen or so visitors a week, whereas another one may bring in twice as many as that on a daily basis. It’s really a question of making sure that you work on putting in as many links as possible, working on the same principle that if you throw enough mud some of it is bound to stick. Outgoing links are the easiest for you to control as it’s up to you to make them happen. Look for quality websites that are related to yours and deal with the same subject. It’s better to link to a popular website than a small one, but overall it’s the quality that really matters, so make sure you take a proper look round before you link to it. Inbound links require a little more thought. One of the best ways to achieve them is to write a series of articles on the same subject as your website and post them to the most popular article directories. Make sure you include a link back to your website at the end of each piece. If you do this on a regular basis you will be creating a network of articles and links that people will follow to reach your website. You only need to get a handful of articles picked up and published elsewhere to create more opportunities for people to make those links active and link back to your site. You can also enter into agreements with other webmasters with similar sites to yours, and agree to link to each other’s site. This will help both of you and it will attract the attention of the search engine spiders for all the right reasons. One final point - it’s worth checking all your links from time to time to ensure that you weed out any dead or broken ones. Not only are these unnecessary and better off removed, but they can also be annoying to visitors who are trying to find information you have recommended to them. |
